Glass-to-Metal Seals for Defense & Aerospace

Our glass-to-metal seals are used in a wide range of sensors necessary for safe, comfortable, and fast air travel.

Such components are permanently exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations, humidity, contamination, high pressures, and vibrations. Electrovac’s glass-to-metal seals provide long-term protection for these vital sensors and have therefore been used flawlessly in aviation for decades.

In addition, our hermetic specialty packages are used worldwide for various satellite projects.

Specialty Packages

Machined packages can be manufactured for almost any design:
> Steel, stainless steel, or Kovar
> For soldered variants, the base can also be made of Al, Cu, MoCu, and CuW, for example, to ensure better heat dissipation.
> External dimensions are designed to customer specifications.
> Manufacturing method: machining

> Pins:
>Kovar, NiFe, or alternative materials for high-current applications

Base Hybrid Packages

In hybrid packages, the pins are either attached parallel to the sidewall (flatpacks) or sealed into the base (plug-in).

Base/Frame: > Steel or Kovar > For soldered variants, the base can also be made of Cu, MoCu, CuW, for example, to ensure better heat dissipation. > External dimensions are designed to customer specifications. > Manufacturing method: deep drawing or machining

Pins: > Kovar or alternative materials for high-current applications

Flat Hybrid Packages

Base plate:
> Steel, stainless steel, or Kovar
> External dimensions are designed to customer specifications.
> Manufacturing method: progressive stamping dies
Pins:
> Kovar, NiFe, or alternative materials for high-current applications

Applicable to specialty and hybrid packages:
> Surface coating: Ni and Au, depending on further processing technology
> Sealing lids and caps can be supplied together with the hermetically sealed package.

Test methods are in accordance with MIL STD 883 or JEDEC STD.
